In an ideal scenario, we recommend staying the course on our mutually chosen model until the completion of our project together.
That said, we recognize that business can be anything but predictable and new requirements arise that may require a shift in our focus and process. That’s the beauty of our engagement models; they empower us to adapt to the nuances of your business and ensure that our collaboration is successful by every metric.
Both the Fixed Project and Monthly Subscription model are designed to accomplish incredible work together in the most organic, productive way possible.
But here a few specifics to help inform our collective decision:
Fixed Projects are typically quoted with an all-in investment figure and a do-not-exceed amount to ensure a specific budget and timeline are met. Fixed projects typically follow a more rigid set of upfront requirements within a statement of work.
Subscriptions are certainly anchored by requirements, budgets, and timelines as well but work best when the priority is speed, flexibility, and resource diversity. When a broad project goal is on the horizon but the finer details of how to get started are fuzzy, Subscriptions allow us to jump right in to action, clarify a roadmap, and begin providing value within day
The right engagement model for most projects depends on a number of different factors that we’ll thoughtfully explore in our initial discovery conversations. However, a simple guide we lean on is the ‘waterfall’ vs ‘agile’ project management framework.
Waterfall projects entail a clearly defined sequence of execution with project phases that do not advance until a phase receives final approval. Once a phase is completed, it can be difficult and costly to revisit a previous stage. Waterfall projects feel most natural when executed as a fixed project engagement.
Agile projects take a more iterative approach to delivering a project throughout its life cycle. Iterative or agile life cycles are composed of several iterations or incremental steps towards the completion of a project. We very intentionally developed our subscription model with agile projects in mind.
